Function

1. Cancer prevention
  1). Inducing cell apoptosis: Xanthohumol can promote apoptosis of gastric cancer cells by inducing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting the NF-κB and PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathways. It can also promote apoptosis of NCI-H460 lung cancer cells by activating the pro-apoptotic protein Bax and inhibiting the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2.
  2). Anti-angiogenesis: Xanthohumol activates the AMPK pathway, reduces the NO level in endothelial cells, inhibits angiogenesis, and thus inhibits tumor growth and metastasis.
  3). Inducing cell pyroptosis: Xanthohumol can inhibit the proliferation and migration of SGC-7901 cells, and induce cell pyroptosis by increasing the expression of GSDME-N protein.
2. Antioxidant
Xanthohumol can scavenge reactive oxygen species, inhibit the production of superoxide anion free radicals and nitric oxide, thereby reducing the damage of oxidative stress to cells.
3. Anti-inflammatory
Xanthohumol inhibits the activity of COX-1 and COX-2, reduces the production of inflammatory mediators, and has anti-inflammatory effects.
4. Antimicrobial
Xanthohumol has excellent inhibitory effects on Rhizoctonia solani and Botrytis cinerea, and can be used to prepare agricultural fungicides.
5. Antiviral
Xanthohumol has antiviral activity against a range of DNA and RNA viruses, including anti-HIV-1 activity.
