Agave is a genus of monocots and is a perennial. In the APG III system, it is placed in the subfamily Agavoideae of the broadly circumscribed family Asparagaceae.Agave extract, also known as agave nectar or agave syrup, is a sweetener extracted from the heart of the agave plant, called the pina.
